Recent Engagements

Higher Education Institutions

Medium Research University in the Midwest

Led an assessment of the central information technology organization using ITIL 4 capability areas.  The assessment targeted areas specified by the institution and included stakeholder input from across all-levels of the organization.  The assessment contained specific recommendations on stakeholder alignment, organization/staffing, processes and services, technology, and finance.

Liberal Arts College in the South

Assessed the Information Technology organization against capability areas based on ITIL 4.  The assessment included mapping current state architecture against a higher education reference architecture, creating application landscape diagrams, mapping relationships between information technology positions, comparing FTE and expenditures against peer institutions, and recommendations to improve the organization and information culture at the institution.

Large Research University in the West

Led an assessment of the enterprise data architecture environment and recommended a data roadmap utilizing an eight step approach.  Also, provided subject matter support for a task force established to provide the University with recommendations on a roadmap for the future direction of information management.

Medium Research University in the Midwest

Engineered an architecture redesign including replacing student-focused systems and retiring the mainframe environment.  Implemented a new cloud-based enterprise resource planning system, residential life system, business intelligence environment, identity and access management system, residential network revamp, and standardization of compute platform.  Introduced ITIL processes and standard enterprise architecture practices using The Open Group Architecture Framework (TOGAF).

Medium Research University in the Midwest

Engaged as Interim Chief Information Officer for the University.

Large Research University in the West 

Documented and redesigned current-state human resources processes as part of an enterprise service delivery initiative.

Liberal Arts College in the Southeast

Created processes and artifacts for new data governance and IT governance committees. Assisted the college in planning for human resources vacancies and redesigning the information technology organization.

Large Research University in the South 

Developed an information governance program including the establishment of a governance committee and creation of governance policies, procedures, and practices. Led a 32-project program to update the enterprise architecture of the University that included a re-imagining of the organizational structure of the central information technology organization – transforming it from a siloed, project-based organization to a bi-modal, product-centered one.  Instituted product-focused strategy/roadmaps, re-engineered internal processes using ITIL, and implemented new technologies to advance the data architecture including data hub and data virtualization environments.

Large Research University in the Midwest

Led a cross-functional team on a multi-million dollar project to create a Web front-end interface to the University’s enterprise resource planning human resource management system.  The effort included mapping current-state processes and designing a single future-state process for the four campuses. Oversaw the consolidation of disparate application interfaces into a single set of consistent code reducing the overall technical debt of the University.

Non-Profit Organizations

Small Non-Profit Organization in the Midwest

Provided technical advice for an organization updating its core training system.  The project was completed two months early and at 60% of the original budget estimate.

Large Non-Profit Organization in the Southeast

Led technical analysis of needs for a new Customer Relationship Management (CRM) and related systems. Performed gap analysis between the current state architecture and a higher education reference architecture. The resulting recommendations included not only technical aspects of the CRM, but also a business intelligence platform, integration platform and data governance solution.  Trained  personnel on information strategy creation and road-mapping techniques.

Small Startup in the Midwest

Advised on changes to the companies data architecture to support new data initiatives

Multi-Company Organization in the Midwest

Designed data architecture roadmap that included installation of a Master Data Management environment and data governance mechanisms.   Performed a top-to-bottom Information Technology assessment and recommended appropriate budget, staffing, and service model.
